This training will provide an in-depth discussion of how to assess an individual’s capacity to make informed decisions on their own behalf. The presentation will review the elements of informed consent, how to properly assess capacity, and factors that should be considered when determining ability to consent to medical treatment, psychiatric medications, and behavior plans. Clinical examples and suggestions on documenting findings will be provided.

This training will provide a comprehensive overview of conducting a functional behavior assessment (FBA). Regulatory requirements and best clinical practices will be discussed, and examples provided.
The Psychotropic Medications training provides an in-depth overview of psychotropic medications, including identification by class, indication, dosing, side effects and adverse reactions. The emphasis of this training is on psycho-pharmacological aspects of medication use, especially as applicable to individuals with developmental disabilities. Clinical and best practice issues are discussed.
